I presume that the ontology sense provides flexibility to incorporate new meanings that before were not possible. It acts like an open book with a pen aside waiting for someone to write and share with others their experiences. As one is presented with various definitions and possibilities depicting a concept, an individual assembles a new understanding out of these meanings and creates his own definition, thus writing it in the next blank page for some one else to read. It invites us to explore the different dimensions of reality. It’s the notion of the never-ending search.
The ontology view arguments that our knowledge derives from discourse. Through discourse we are able to recognize reality. Therefore, states that different communities discern reality distinctly due to influence. This does not mean that there should be a side that is more logical than the other, it just differs to the manner in which is interpreted. People with different backgrounds such as religion and culture recognize reality in their own way. Individuals within similar beliefs engage a similar perception. Reality recognition correlates with the perspectives that surge from others.
Unlike the methodological sense, the ontological sense is not objective. It is not only driven by only facts but by personal feelings as well. I argue that the methodological sense its narrowed in its representation of reality. This means that there is a limit to what it can be said and what can be true. I believe that reality is too complex to assign a unique meaning. A methodological mind pursues a stationary belief rejecting alternative meanings to reality. I discern that its important to acknowledge other peoples’ interpretations. I presume that one’s perspective of reality changes in time. As one lives and they also learn. Consciously or unconsciously a person makes its own deductions as it gains experience. One may argue, that physics its an objective concept and that it will always stand. But one as well can argue that at some point physics was defined by the many minds that collaborated to create an interpretation of how forces come to function. In addition, Brummett states, “Reality is unknowable outside of a contingent perspective.”
The ontological sense provides further comprehension about reality through exploring new meanings. Reality should not be understood with total conviction, since it always changes upon its circumstances. I believe that we should be open minded and accepting to new perspectives and the ontological sense grants that possibility.
